At the heart of every supportive workplace is a team dedicated to wellbeing, and we’re proud to introduce Latasha, Daniel, and Julie, our incredible Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA). From their comprehensive training to the compassionate care they provide, these individuals are pivotal in creating a positive, supportive environment for everyone at our organisation.
What Is a Mental Health First Aider?
A Mental Health First Aider plays a vital role in the workplace, similar to physical first aiders, but for mental health. They’re trained to:
- Recognise early signs of mental health issues such as anxiety, stress, or depression.
- Provide immediate support through active listening and practical guidance.
- Encourage professional help when necessary, while fostering a safe space to discuss mental health.
MHFAs are not therapists but serve as first responders, offering initial support and signposting colleagues to appropriate resources.
Our Mental Health Champions
As the Operations Manager for the Southeast Region, Latasha is passionate about driving change and fostering a supportive work environment. Her commitment to community care extends to her role as an MHFA, where she ensures that colleagues feel valued and heard.
“Contributing to the community care sector is not just a job; it’s a vocation. I’m honoured to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.”
Latasha’s leadership ensures that innovation is paired with genuine care, making her a cornerstone of our wellbeing initiatives.
Daniel, who completed his MHFA course in late 2023, wears multiple hats as a recruiter and first aider. His role involves onboarding new staff and supporting them both professionally and personally.
“The MHFA training has enhanced my ability to assist colleagues with work and personal matters, fostering a collaborative environment.”
Daniel’s dual role ensures that new team members feel welcomed and supported, making him an invaluable resource for both mental health support and career guidance.
Why Mental Health Support Matters in the Workplace
According to the Mental Health Foundation, one in six people in the UK experience mental health issues in the workplace. Having MHFAs like Latasha, Daniel, and Julie helps:
- Reduce stigma around mental health by fostering open conversations.
- Enhance productivity by addressing issues early and supporting recovery.
- Improve morale by showing employees that their wellbeing is a top priority.

The Training Behind the Role
Becoming a Mental Health First Aider involves rigorous training, often including:
- Understanding mental health conditions and risk factors.
- Learning how to provide non-judgmental support and reassurance.
- Acquiring skills to handle mental health crises, such as panic attacks or suicidal thoughts.
This training empowers MHFAs to act confidently and compassionately, ensuring that colleagues always have someone to turn to in times of need.
How MHFAs Benefit Everyone
The impact of our Mental Health First Aiders goes beyond the immediate team:
- Employees feel more connected, knowing they have someone to confide in.
- Leaders gain insights into the wellbeing needs of their teams, shaping better policies.
- Clients benefit, as a healthier, happier workforce delivers better care and service.
